Timberlake Baptist Church – His Story
In 1988, a small group of 25 believers gathered in a living room with a bold vision: to start a church
that would serve the Waccamaw community and share the hope of Christ. Just days later, Timberlake
held its first worship service with 59 people, a borrowed piano, donated hymnals, and a handmade
wooden cross that still hangs in our prayer room today. God has blessed that humble beginning, and
over three decades later, we continue to grow and thrive.
Key Milestones in Our Journey
• October 26, 1988 – The founding group met at the Collins’ home to prayerfully begin Timberlake
Baptist Mission.
• October 30, 1988 – First Sunday worship service held with 59 attendees in an office building owned
by Rev. Collins.
• November 9, 1988 – 25 charter members joined by letter of transfer.
• January 1989 – Children and youth mission groups formed.
• April 5, 1989 – Adult ministries began.
• June 4, 1989 – Transitioned from Mission to Timberlake Baptist Church.
• October 19, 1989 – Accepted into the Waccamaw Baptist Association with 95 charter members.
• December 8, 1989 – Official incorporation issued by the State of South Carolina.
• September 13, 1992 – Groundbreaking on current church property, donated by Rev. and Mrs.
Maxie Collins.
• July 11, 1993 – Dedication of the sanctuary, built with scripture written into its beams and
foundations.
• October 26, 2003 – The Christian Life Center (CLC) was dedicated to the glory of God, providing
expanded space for ministry, discipleship, and church-based educational vision.
• 2026 – Actively engaged in expanding parking capacity in preparation for a future new worship
center, as part of our ongoing “Giving While We Grow” stewardship efforts.
Our Ongoing Story
Timberlake Baptist Church is constituted under the Southern Baptist Convention and is a cooperating
church in the Waccamaw Baptist Association, partnering together in shared mission, gospel
cooperation, and Kingdom outreach.

Our journey continues today as we honor the faith, dedication, and vision of those who laid the foundation before us. Through every season, God has provided—land, leadership, skills, and achurch family committed to His will.
